Jobs and vacancies

Postgraduate (PhD & MPhil) Research Opportunities

There are a range of graduate research opportunities to study for PhD or MPhil degrees. Funding is usually provided by group research projects or research council scholarships (through the department), although other scholarship opportunities also exist (Gates, Churchill, Oppenheimer, etc.).

Information about the general application procedure for MPhil and PhD research projects is available here on the departmental website.  All our projects are available to individuals applying for any DTP or Trust studentships, as well as other scholarships and awards.  Specific funding may be available for particular projects.

We welcome informal enquiries about graduate research with us prior to formal applications, since graduate research is very much about finding a good match between student and project. Please contact Prof. Andrew Jardine or Prof. John Ellis regarding graduate research opportunities.

Postdoctoral & Other Vacancies

Postdoctoral and other jobs regularly become available in the group. Contact Prof. Andrew Jardine or Prof. John Ellis about projects in Surface & 2D nanoScience.

We are particularly keen to support independent researchers and fellowship applications. Please get in touch with us to discuss how to put in applications.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Long-vacation undergraduate research placements are often available. The placements are intended to give real experience in condensed matter physics research to undergraduate students. Please contact Dr Boyao Liu, Prof. Andrew Jardine, or Prof. John Ellis to discuss.
